Demonstration: A Painting's Progress

Referring to a small page of color "blobs" containing my often used colors,
I began to mix a palette of colors I wanted to use in the painting. I am using fast drying oils, or alkyds.
They can be mixed with liquin, also a fast drying medium, and clean up with the usual solvents for oils.

After toning the board with a rose color mixture of liquin and paint, I began to
put in the darkest darks and the lightest lights.

Now I add more color, at the same time establishing the light, dark and middle tones.

Once the general tones and color are established, I begin to pay more attention to brush strokes.

The finished painting contains more color than the original scene and photo reference.
I walk this path most mornings, and watched the leaves turn color over several weeks. Memory and
personal response to nature play a part in such a painting of one's treasured surroundings.
